Let’s face it, another mistake and it did cross my mind when I edited the profile of this blog yesterday that ‘Resurge(Ire) is not a horse in a donkey race.’ There was always The Cayterers, a horse at the top of his game, a dual course winner and the fact that he had won a 2 mile novice hurdle, and the distinct possibility that he could again rise to the occasion. Unless the favourite was some kind of wonder horse and Resurge(Ire) wasn’t going to win, there was no other outcome to this race and I’m slightly gutted that I didn’t do a forecast or a saver. If there’s any consolation, I think the favourite, State Banquet(USA), ran quite well to be third and the winning margin of a neck may mean the handicapper will be leniant on the first two – if we manage to stay in the game we could gain some compensation on any of the first three before the season is out.
I’m also slightly devastated that the deal with the booky was a con – we have well and truly been had and I can’t help feeling that we have just lept into shark infested waters and are about to be eaten alive! It was a major headache working out (let alone the workings of the website and how to place a bet) the best stake to put on Resurge(Ire). In the end I plumped for a tenner and forfeited £15 of our free bets, sorry but I’m not prepared to risk £25 to earn a £25 free bet, what if that lost? Our bank would be almost halved – FFFFFFFFF that! We now qualify for a £10 free bet but as far as I’m concerned we are into the red, talking of which, have you seen today’s racing?
I’m having a day off today in preparation for the serious racing (Newmarket/Ascot etc) later in the week but I just noticed that of the 12 horses I got noted, a third of them have got ‘Red’ in the name. I’d like to think one of them should win but I wouldn’t like to hazard a guess as to which one. I’m going to try and find us a 4/1+ winner on a televised race @ Newmarket starting Wednesday and try and earn us another free bet.
One horse that did go in the notebook yesterday was Blue Jack who ran the time of the meet and almost won his 5f sprint by 4l’s, he could be turning out again Thursday @ Newmarket under a penalty.

I Feels A Resurge of Interest Coming On but
Testing, testing, does it all still work? Racing Correspondent for The Beano! He's having a stephanie!
July 6th 2009 8.00 Windsor 10f (0-85)fc
The race for me today has to be the quick reappearance of last week’s runaway CD winner, Resurge(Ire) (and a fine tipping job by yours truly). The guy with the Racing Post says he’ll be a major player but State Banquet(USA) is an unexposed 3yo with potential, I recall similar remarks being made about last week’s well beaten favourite and the figures suggest that he is not much better than. He has already missed a previous engagement (trainer says he was hoping to be ready for Ascot) and the stable aren’t exactly firing on all cylinders. There will be no 12/1 about Resurge(Ire) today and I doubt very much another 7l’s winning margin as this is slightly more competitive but on all known previous form he improved around a stone (14lb) for the step up in trip last week and I feel he is going to be very hard to beat. Interesting too, The Cayterers, a bit of a specialist here at Windsor and at the top of his game, he has won a novice hurdle but this is the furthest he has gone on the flat. I think the handicapper pretty much has his measure and unless like Resurge(Ire) last week, he’s not going to be winning. Interesting for the price, 12/s forecast would be the Hannon trained (choice of 4 entries) & CD winning Special Reserve(Ire). So, Resurge(Ire) could be our first bet….
Sun 5th July 4.40 Ayr 8f (0-85)
Oh dear, White Deer(USA), 3rd @ 4/s a lesser-light qualifier gets beat into 3rd at Ayr! He was always going to be vulnerable to the handicap debutant, Newmarket raider and eventual winner, Royal Destination(Ire), if as suggested and so proved, that he had got in on a reasonable mark. This was the feature race on the card and was run in the fastest time, so I think we should add the winner’s previous victim, Espero(Ire), to the notebook. He was beaten only a head last time, the 85 rated 3rd has already won, so the form is hot, hot and now finds himself qualified for handicaps. He’s with an interesting stable which don’t have many runners on the flat, so there may be the chance of a price. We should also note the second, Cobo Bay – this previous course and distance winner has dropped back to a winning mark and because of the fast time here just qualified as a lesser-light (these are not quite Top Notch but definitely ones to be interested in). This time last year he was carrying a rating of 100 after a lucrative autumn in 2007 and this fair second to the unexposed winner off’ve 85 tells me that he is all set to resume winning ways.

A fearless foursome, from Ayr....
12.50 Ayr 21f Class 4 hvy cn
AKILAK, fresh, BF, 11/10f fc
Relatives distance preferences suggest he may not stay this trip & is a bit of a short price to take about him finding out.
1.25 Ayr, 21.5f hvy Class 4 hn
CEDRUS LIBANI, fresh, 6/4f fc
This guy is bred to stay.
1.55 Ayr 16f hvy Class 3 cn
KILMACKILLOGE, fresh, 5/2 2f fc
Has more tips, more postdata ticks, higher speed figures & better odds than the main oppostion - could be the value here.
3.00 Ayr 16f hvy (0-110) ch
+24 +32 FEARLESS FOURSOME, fit, (ex7), 7/4f fc, a Bubbling Under selection using Raceform’s SS, has already won since being noted & the opposition here doesn’t look up to much - not one has a win to it's name in their last 6 outings. Be lucky to get 2/1

Can a little bit of history repeat itself today?
Two races to be concerned with today, a Noted horse worth opposing & a Bubbling Under, worth going with.
2.45 Taunton 23.5f gs (0-120) c
+16 +15 ABRAGANTE, Noted, is running off a mark 11lb higher than when winning & notching his best speed figure over ½ mile shorter than today’s trip at Haydock in early November. Is going to be a short price today on the back of his hurdle win at Exeter & could be worth taking on, especially with something like….
+29 +26 YANN’S, Prev, fresh, CD, is on a mark 6lb lower than his last winning one, which just so happens to have been here over CD with today’s jockey on board. In fact he’s won twice over this CD with today’s pilot & both times after a layoff.
3.15 Taunton 19f gs (0-110) cj’s c
+31 +20 BELUGA, doubts about ground & course & no McCoy this time.
+34 +27 SITTING DUCK, CD, BF, less question marks & every chance today of reversing placings with above.
I should get some time to do a review seeing as the Racing world will have a quiet patch before Xmas & that should help me get a pre-Crimble December Notebook update out before the big meeting at Kempton on Boxing Day.

It's the Ladbroke @ Ascot.....
We've got horses running at all four stix meetings today....
12.25 Hayd Class 3 16f hvy cn
SS RPR TS
109 139 99 FLYING ENTERPRISE(IRE), CD, fit, SS rate this horse better than Tidal Fury & gave a figure higher than TS, which is rare.
97 128 128 PRINCIE AZZURRO(FR), on my reckoning, would be better off in a h’cap & jockey booking suggests he’s not here to win.
107 149 153 TIDAL FURY(IRE), BF, returns to trip & similar ground as winning debut but this is Haydock where the fences are harder than Carlisle. Has 8/14 tips & is favourite on the strength of what is looking more like a dubious TopSpeed figure by the day. The value here could be Flying Enterprise’s RPR of [139].
1.10 Ascot (0-153) 24f gd c
19 29 -15 HARRIS BAY, fresh, CD, the type that does just enough. This could turn in to an advert for the chances of Lou Du Moulin Mas in the Welsh National, like Paul Nicholls said, ‘we were beaten by a well h’capped horse.’
25 20 18 Copsdale Lad, prev
28 22 17 Graphic Approach, prev, these two are ahead on the figures though & I’m tempted to split my stake three ways but is it worth it, just to double your money?
1.40 Ascot Class 3 19.5f gd hn
28 -3 -3 TIPPERARY ALL STAR(FR)
31 2 7 OVERSTRAND(IRE)
37 11 10 6 g ACAMBO, fresh & of the classier types I prefer this one but…
34 13 2 VERASI
35 16 1 TARLAC(GER), CD, fresh, beat 6 horses with no speed figure last time & doesn’t warrant being fav in my book.
34 14 12 PIRATE FLAGSHIP, nr fresh
37 32 23 KINGS QUAY, BF, has been a lot of support for this one but 4yo’s don’t do too well in this race.
45 38 32 PILCA(FR), bang in form & I know the odds are shortening every time I look at them. He’s ahead on the figures, even for accounting that he’s out of the h’cap proper. His two recent wins were on ‘gd ground & the way he hit the front two out over a furlong further last week suggests he could be thereabouts again. 6yo’s don’t have a good record either but I’m proposing an EW bet at the best price you can get. A split stake then.
2.05 Hayd (0-159) 20f hvy h
20 23 -7 JAZZ D'ESTRUVAL(FR), CD, fresh, won this last year & never been out of the first three in his career.
18 21 17 OSCAR PARK(IRE), fit, almost as good a placement record as above, in fact, if you just count first & second’s, it’s better. If you disregard those below on trainer form, this guy is ahead on speed figures & I could be tempted.
24 26 23 WHISPERED PROMISES(USA)
28 29 21 UNITED(GER)
2.10 Ascot Grade 1 25f gd h
The fav, Mighty Man is the best part of 10lb clear on three sets of figures. Will be hard to beat.
2.35 Hayd (0-140) 24f hvy c
25 10 -18 WILD CANE RIDGE(IRE)
39 32 10 STRONG RESOLVE, CD, BF, fresh but trainer form no good. A good race to leave alone though someone tips Rosie Redman & she tops the figures & is 20/1 – if you’re desperate.
2.45 Ascot (0-139) 16f gd h
102 127 126 HERE'S JOHNNY(IRE)
Upped in class a bit here, 10/s forecast, if he drifts to say 16/s could be worth a place.
3.00 Fairy $8k 21f hvy cn
125 123 ANSHIRE TOWER(IRE), fit 7/2 fc
122 112 SLYGUFF RORY(IRE), fit, 5/2f fc
Interesting little match (albeit with 14 other runners) between two Noted horses – it has taken Slyguff three runs to notch his figures, whereas Anshire Tower scored his on his chase debut and should come out on top. You could always ‘dutch ‘em!
3.05 Hayd Class 4 20f hvy hn
148 124 121 LITTLE ROCKER(IRE), you could see how Here’s Johnny gets on in the 2.45 Ascot, this is slightly less competitive.
36 8 9 WITCH WIND
3.25 Newc (0-130) 20f st c
41 21 13 SILVER SEDGE(IRE), CD, fit, improver
39 28 20 LORD RODNEY(IRE), D, fresh, improver
44 20 20 GREAT AS GOLD, CD, fit
I thought I saw a decent bet here until I noticed Great As Gold who clocked a figure some time ago. He is with the same trainer as that Transit who beat Bongo Fury on Tuesday and has a similar form profile. Could be a real live wire and at current odds of 9/1 forecast I suggest we split our stake, 2/3rd’ on Lord Rodney, whose form got a boost by the 3rd last Saturday & a 1/3rd on this Great As Gold.
Soon, I will be doing a suggestion review to see which types of race our horses do best in and it's about time we had a December Notebook to give oursleves a head start over the Xmas period.

Some quality racing today at Ascot & one at Uttoxeter.
1.25 Ascot (0-112) 17f gs c
13 13 CHARLTON KINGS(IRE)
A chance to redeem himself, has less questions to answer than most.
2.00 Ascot Gr 2 16f gs nh
MOON OVER MIAMI(GER)
ORPEN WIDE(IRE)
PEPPORONI PETE
TAGULA BLUE(IRE)
ALBINUS
A hot novice hurdle but will Pepporoni Pete be up to it? At forecast odds around evens I think he is worth taking on with a couple of EW's.
2.35 Ascot Gr 2 19f gs cn
A quality little novice chase with all runners Noted, the favourite has only lost recently to an Arkle prospect so it will be interesting to see if he can uphold the form.
3.10 Ascot (0-140) 17f gs c
13 10 BAMBI DE L'ORME(FR)
15 5 JERICHO III(FR)
29 25 COSSACK DANCER(IRE)
46 39 MAMBO DES MOTTES(FR)
Mambo has to be the h’cap snip of the day.
Uttox Class 4 16f hvy cn
OPERA DE COEUR(FR)
Caused a Stewards Enquiry in his running behind Lennon (another Arkle hope) & if you can get the 4/5 forecast I think it would be value. Better value than Natal as there is less opposition.
There are a possible 3 win & a couple of EW bets here but afer Newbury I'm not suggesting anything for a while.

Mid-week @ Newbury....
12.15 Newbury Class C hn 16.5f st
MARODIMA, Noted, sf fresh, maybe too keen last time, the second's let the form down a bit but at forecast odds of 7/s worthy of interest.
Airbound,In a race normally won by Nicky Henderson it is interesting to see his jockey sat here at 33/1 - a little EW.
O'Neill's & King's pairs, a hot little novice.

20 16 BRAVE VILLA(FR) 21 Posted, is up in trip here in a race slightly more competitive than he's used to. At forecast odds of 5/1 with 5/13 tips, on the back of three improving personal bests, it might be worth chancing he can stay. But what of trainer form?
